First, an honest check that it suits your case.
An option for tendon pain that time and rest didn’t touch. Added alongside your loading program, never in place of it.
What It Is
Shockwave therapy sends pulses of acoustic pressure through the skin into a sore tendon. Gel goes on, the pulses go in, you walk out. No needles, no anesthetic, no incision, nothing to recover from.
The idea is simple. A tendon that has been irritated for a long time can settle into a stalled state where healing quietly stops. The pulses raise blood flow to the area and give the tissue a reason to respond again. It’s used for tendon pain that has already had time, rest and honest rehab, and still hurts.
Here’s the part most places leave out. Shockwave doesn’t rebuild a tendon. Loaded exercise does that. This is an adjunct we add when progress has stalled, and only after a licensed physical therapist has looked at your case and thinks it fits. If it doesn’t fit yours, we’ll tell you.
Offered only when it fits
What It Helps
You’re not looking for a miracle. You want someone to tell you the truth about your options. A tendon that has hurt for a year rarely sorts itself out in the next one.

Questions, Answered
Most people describe mild discomfort over the sore spot, and it stops when the pulses stop. The intensity is adjustable, so if it’s too much you say so and it comes down. Nothing is sprung on you. Your licensed physical therapist explains what you’ll feel first, and you can stop at any point.
Shockwave is usually a short course of sessions inside a longer plan, and we set the number after we’ve seen you. For the plan itself, a general guideline is 2–3 visits a week for 4–6 weeks, with sessions running 30–60 minutes. That’s a guideline, never a guarantee. If shockwave isn’t moving your case, we stop using it rather than sell you more of it.
No referral is needed to start physical therapy. California Direct Access allows up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first, before a physician signs off. Coverage for shockwave specifically varies, and plenty of plans treat it differently than a standard visit. We’re a Medicare specialist, we accept 14 plans plus all PPOs, and we verify your exact benefits before anything is scheduled. Questions before then? Call us at (562) 512-3320.
