Vestibular Therapy in Lakewood.

Rolling over in bed without the room following. Reaching a high shelf without holding on. We retrain the balance system instead of muting the symptom.

What It Is

Retrain the system. Don’t just mute it.

Your balance system lives in the inner ear. It tells your brain which way is up and where your head is going. When it misreports, the room moves.

Vestibular therapy is structured, progressive work that helps the brain adapt and compensate. Canalith repositioning for the loose crystals behind BPPV. Gaze stabilization for eyes that lag behind your head. Balance and gait training, and desensitizing the motion that sets you off.

Medication can quiet the symptom for a while. It does not retrain the system. This does, one graded step at a time, with a licensed physical therapist watching how you respond before adding anything harder.

What It Helps

When the room won’t hold still.

Dizziness gets called harmless right up until it puts someone on the floor. Most of it has a mechanism. Mechanisms can be retrained.

Questions, Answered

Everything you’re wondering before you book.

Briefly, and on purpose. The brain only recalibrates against the movement it has been avoiding, so a mild wave is part of the work. It is not the point of it. Each session is customized to your condition and progressed only as you handle it, so you are challenged, never overstimulated. A licensed physical therapist is beside you the whole time, and you can stop any exercise at any moment.

It depends on what is causing the dizziness, and the evaluation is what tells us. The general guideline here is 2–3 visits a week for 4–6 weeks, and it is a guideline, never a guarantee. Sessions run 30–60 minutes. You get a plan with an endpoint on day one, so progress is something you can see rather than hope for.

You can start without one. California Direct Access lets you be seen for up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first, before a physician has to sign off. On coverage, we are a Medicare specialist, we accept 14 plans plus all PPOs, and we verify your exact benefits before your first visit so the cost is not a surprise. Call (562) 512-3320 and we will look yours up with you.
