What We Treat

Fibromyalgia Treatment in Lakewood

The ache that moved in everywhere and never left. The tiredness that sleep doesn’t touch. You’ve probably been told your tests all look fine. Your pain is real. What we work on is how your nervous system is handling it.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like you?

  • Aching in too many places at once, with no injury to point at
  • Waking up more tired than when you went to bed
  • Losing the word you were halfway through saying
  • Spots on your neck, shoulders and hips that hurt from a light touch
  • A cold snap or one bad week of sleep setting off days you have to plan around
  • Morning stiffness that takes until lunchtime to loosen up

Two or more? You’ve spent years looking after everybody else while carrying this. Keep reading.

Why It Happens

Nothing is torn. The volume is turned up.

Fibromyalgia isn’t damage sitting in your muscles. It’s a change in how your body processes pain signals. Think of a volume knob stuck near the top. Ordinary input, a hug, a long afternoon on your feet, a cold morning, arrives at the brain reading as pain. The fatigue and the foggy thinking come from the same system running hot. That’s why they travel together, and why your scans and blood work keep coming back normal.

It also explains why rest on its own never sorts it out. Turning that volume back down takes two things. Understanding what your nervous system is actually doing, which is the job of Pain Neuroscience Education. And movement dosed carefully enough that your body stops reading it as a threat. Some people notice symptoms started after an illness, an injury or a hard stretch of stress. Knowing your particular pattern is what the evaluation is for.

The Honest Truth

Fibromyalgia symptoms don’t sort themselves out.

If you keep waiting

  • You do less on the good days to protect the bad ones, and the good days get shorter
  • Muscles that stop getting used get weaker, so the same errand costs more than it used to
  • Pain, poor sleep and stress keep feeding each other until you can’t tell which one started it

If you start now

  • Thirty to sixty minutes, and you leave understanding why your body keeps doing this
  • Movement dosed to the day you’re having, not a printout that sets you off
  • A plan with an endpoint, plus strategies you can run at home when a flare arrives

Nobody regrets starting too early. Plenty of people wish they hadn’t waited.

How We Fix It

The same four phases. Built for a system on high alert.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like when the pain is everywhere.

First visits

Pain

Turn the volume down.

Manual therapy and myofascial release settle the tender areas, while Pain Neuroscience Education starts explaining what your nervous system is actually doing.

Once it settles

Prime

Move without setting it off.

Gentle mobility work, deliberately smaller than you expect, so your body relearns that movement is safe instead of bracing against it.

As tolerance grows

Perform

Build back what the flares took.

Strength and stamina added a little at a time, with pacing and relaxation work, so one good week stops ending in three bad ones.

Before you finish

Prevent

Take the controls back.

Sleep, stress, posture and your at-home routine get built into something you can run without us. That’s the endpoint, not another appointment.

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for fibromyalgia.

Too much, too soon, it can. That is exactly why we start smaller than you expect. Movement is one of the most useful tools for a sensitized nervous system, but only at a dose your body reads as safe. A licensed physical therapist sets that dose with you, one-on-one, and moves it up only when your week says you are ready. If you do flare, we adjust at the next visit instead of pushing through.

You do not need either to get started. California Direct Access lets you see a licensed physical therapist for up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first, with no physician sign-off. We accept 14 insurance plans, and we go through your benefits with you before you commit to anything. If what you describe needs a physician workup alongside therapy, we will tell you at the evaluation and help you get there.

There is no cure for fibromyalgia, and we will not pretend otherwise. What can change is how much room it takes up in your week. As a general guideline, 2 to 3 visits a week for 4 to 6 weeks gets the most out of a plan, and sessions run 30 to 60 minutes. You get a plan with an endpoint, and the goal of that endpoint is handing the day to day management back to you.
